November 2016: Stop, It's Travel Time

Along, Beside, & Between: A Newsletter (Issue 13)

Stop, it's travel time.

Last newsletter left me in South Africa. November has been equally characterized by moving all over the place. I have been to Livingstone (where Victoria Falls is), the capital Lusaka twice, Kitwe a bunch of times, and even moving around town more.  This season, I am able to travel and get things settled for when the students come. But even as I do so, I have been learning lessons and meeting amazing people.

Love to all,

For a one-stop shop for all my links, check out my tumblr page.

  • I have been going hard on the Bemba lessons. I finally found a tutor and now make the trek into town twice a week to try to learn this language that is so different from anything else I have learned! But I do see a little progress!
  • I also found a mentor—a lady named Grace who has children my age, is very good at listening, and whose advice is humble yet strong. I am so very thankful for her presence.
  • I went to Livingstone with some Wheaton students. It was refreshing to be with people who understand where I come from and are asking the same questions about what it means to do cross cultural ministry. I will miss them bunches.
  • We have been doing a bunch of prep work for the Gap year students who come in January. I have been getting out the word—even to random people on the bus!
  • I made a Thanksgiving meal for my GLO family of 30. Having everyone all together was so joyful. We made hand-turkeys and wrote down what we were thankful for.
  • Aaaaand the last update is that a secret Santa gifted me an amazing gift—A TRIP HOME FOR CHRISTMAS! That’s right. I am flying home Dec 17-Jan 9 to have Christmas with the fam. What a joy!
  • My work permit process has been crazy—lots of unexpected hoops to jump through. And I don’t even have it yet! Please pray that I will get it soon, considering my days as a visitor have already expired.
  • Youth camp is the reason that this newsletter is late. It is this week (Dec 5-10) and then we have Children’s camp Dec 11-14. Pray for the students who come, that God would work in their lives and hearts.
  • As you all know, I kicked off my year-end giving on Giving Tuesday. Please be praying for that fund! And thank you to all who gave!
