October is the wicked hot season here and most people just say "get through it and the rains will come in November." Not going to lie, I am definitely looking forward to it cooling off but it has also given me an opportunity to check out some pools with new friends.
So while you guys are getting out your scrafs and chugging down Pumpkin Spice Lattes, I am rubbing in sunscreen and perfecting my cannonball.
October has been very fun, as you'll see below.
Love to all,
For a one-stop shop for all my links, check out my tumblr page.
We went on a mission trip with some young people from Kitwe and Ndola. We drove all the way across the country to a border-village called Kazangula. It was hot and sandy, but we got to have some great conversations with local people. Check out my blog for a cool story of what I learned.
My russian roomate named Irina has finally arrived and moved in to our house. We are still getting to know each other.
Prep for the youth camps in December and for the gap year program continues.
October 9 was the 3 year anniversary of my mom passing away. I still think she is one of the most amazing people I have ever known.
I had a visit from my friends Isaac and Sarah Smoak. It was a breath of fresh air to see people who know me and love me!
For visa reasons, I had to take a trip outside of the country so I am currently writing this from South Africa! I have been joining in the work of the Innerchange staff here outside of Pretoria. I am learning so much about life and God from them! Seriously, it is a common thing for me to be running for my journal to write down something that they have said or asked.
And as you can see from the portraits below, I have been practicing my photography skillz.
Please pray for my coworker Maria. She is going in for surgery today and will have a couple weeks of recovery. She has been having complications for a while and they are hoping that this surgery will fix the problem. Pray for healing!
Getting my work permit has been absolutely ridiculous--paperwork on paperwork and hearing different things from different immigration officers. So currently the plan is to go to the capital, Lusaka, and apply there. Please pray for me to get my work permit smoothly and quickly. My visiting days are up at the end of November.
Pray for us as we prepare for the youth camps and gap year course that are coming up in December and January respectively. Pray for the students who are coming as well as us as we prepare the program.
Pray for relationships here. I am still in the process of making relationships with the girls in the community. I want to combine language learning with relationship building. (But learning another language is sooo hard!)
